Big News – Our wings are on their way!

Hi Everyone,

Our Halifax bomber rebuild at BCMC and H57RC requires 2 OUTER wing panels. Total wing length – 53 feet.

After ”shopping around” at Canadian Tire in Canada and Tesco’s in the UK with no success,  we finally came up with this pair of beauties – thanks to our friends at the Yorkshire Air Museum and the RAF Museum — notice how high and proud they are, as they began their journey today!

Then see them leave Yorkshire to go across great waters to Trenton – via Arnprior via Nanton – estimated day of arrival  at RCAF Trenton is July 30 on a RCAF C-17.

See our 2 darlings heading out on 2 big lorries this morning July 13 to the colonies. ON VIDEO, down below.
Hot off the presses! – our wings have now arrived today on July 13 at Prestwick, Scotland at the RCAF detachment there – they caused quite stir when arriving on 2 big lorries this morning – now safely stored awaiting our airlift to RCAF Trenton.
Once again, the good folks in Yorkshire – just as they did some 80 years ago, now including Patrick Smart and his team – he donated the photos – video from today, and Giles Potter and his lorry company POTTER PLANT HIRE,  are helping keep the memory alive for our Bomber Boys of the RCAF and RAF.
More later, in late July,  as we ”WING IT” for our Halifax bomber rebuild.
Remember, BCMC has a big event on SAT. July 20 “MOSQUITO DAY”  with engine runs and then H57RC does an airshow at Medicine Hat running the Bristol Hercules on July 22. We invite you all to come to these events.
Then, here I go again! – another trip to the UK from July 23 – 29 to pick-up, crate, and ship Halifax parts back in several crates to the Rebuildshop in Ontario and BCMC in Alberta.
I do not need to tell you the strain this puts on our budget for the Halifax project and rebuild.
We have these rare Halifax parts just waiting to come to us in Canada but they must be prepared for shipment by yours truly, and my estimates for this next trip after all crating-transporting-shipping to Canada is in the region of $2,500 to $3,000. over my 1 week trip driving all over the UK.
We have had some good people last month donate funds toward these shipping trips but we are still short of all the funds to cover all of these crates and shipping.
So this is where, this month, you could help us to weather the costs of all this shipping. Every 100 or 200 or 500 dollars you donate can get these rare parts to Canada and will keep us going.
There are Halifax rear fuselage parts, tail plane sections, cowlings, 6 more NEW propeller blades, and many smaller items awaiting our shipping from the UK and we do not have enough funds to cover it all.
Tail sections crated to UK – Montreal – Arnprior $1,200.
Props crated  to Calgary $500.
Total shipping of wings by 2 trucks from Trenton –  to Arnprior $2,800.
We hope you will think of us NOW, as you can see we are worthy – 2 giant wings coming our way is NOT be brushed off as “we cannot do the job” – we are the magicians making the Halifax come to life, through your donations.
On to the rebuild of Halifax parts, see the rocket we are rebuilding at BCMC, it is called “Maissey’s Rocket” and we are well into the rebuild of this Halifax Boulton-Paul rear turret at BCMC in Nanton, Alberta. Please keep a look-out for ANY turret parts as we do not have 100% of the turret parts yet! See Maissey with our tail turret on handover from her launch pad, below.
”Maissey’s Rocket” has traveled all the way from the backyard of the Watts family near Swindon Uk across an ocean to land in Nanton, Alberta. I remember, Maissey’s father said — you must get permission from Maissey to release her ”rocket” to you for your Halifax. If she says no, you are scuppered.  So knowing she had played in it all her life and had obviously had many voyages across far-flung galaxies – I did my best.
After explaining to Maissy how important her rocket would be for the bomber boys in Halifaxes that won the war for us, she agreed to passing her treasure – her chariot to the stars – on to us.
Now the time is right, with the finding of more Halifax rear turret parts and tail section pieces in Holland, the time has come to repair and restore the Boulton-Paul turret so dearly given by an 8 year old astronaut princess.
BTW, there have been certain ”blessings” bestowed by this author on all the BP employees who put a nut and bolt or a flush mounted rivet every TWO bloody inches, from top to bottom, in every nook and cranny of this tail gunners greenhouse. I cannot give you the spelling of these “blessings”, but they were uttered with enthusiasm during my restoration work!
Not only that, but under each perspex piece inserted into the framework, they had to put black top-secret sealant which must have been made with microscopic rivets that will only come off if using a machete and ball peen hammer.
Have a look at my paltry beginnings, in these pics below, and we will do our best to fix Maissy’s rocket to a greater glory.
Let us begin our Boulton-Paul journey, in the weeks ahead, and you better hope the job is done before I run out of knuckles.
Finally,  “Pilgrims of Halifax”, our voyage continues with your support. I will be returning from the UK to Toronto on July 29 to be there at RCAF Trenton on July 30 when our 2 wings arrive and make sure they make it home. Standby for a report, almost live, as this EXCITING addition of 2 outer wings for our Halifax becomes a reality.
I told you it was NOT gonna be boring and we are delivering on that promise.
We hope to hear from you with your support!
WE LEAVE NO HALIFAX BEHIND
Regards, KK
